Postbiotics: What They Are and Which Nattome Products Contain Them
Short answer: Nattome DH Digestive Health and Nattome DB Digestive Booster both contain a fermented-grain postbiotic. DH contains no live probiotics. Nattome DR does not list a postbiotic.
What is a postbiotic?
The International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) defines a postbiotic as "a preparation of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confers a health benefit on the host" (Salminen et al., Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2021; DOI 10.1038/s41575-021-00440-6).
| What it is | Example in Nattome | |
|---|---|---|
| Probiotic | Live microorganisms | Lactobacillus plantarum LP115 (DB only) |
| Prebiotic | Fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria | Livaux® gold kiwifruit fibre (DB) |
| Postbiotic | Inanimate microorganisms and/or their components | Fermented-grain postbiotic (DH and DB) |
Which Nattome products contain postbiotics?
- Nattome DH Digestive Health: a fermented soy nutrition drink for daily gut support. It contains a fermented-grain postbiotic, together with Gastro-AD® fermented soy and DigeZyme® digestive enzymes. DH does not contain live probiotics.
- Nattome DB Digestive Booster: a cocoa sachet that combines a probiotic (L. plantarum LP115), a prebiotic (Livaux®) and a fermented-grain postbiotic.
- Nattome DR Digestive Remedy does not list a postbiotic. It is a ready-to-eat fermented soy sachet for moments of heartburn or acid reflux discomfort.
Is DH a probiotic?
No. DH contains a postbiotic and no live probiotics. If you are looking for a product with a live probiotic, Nattome DB contains L. plantarum LP115.
Is there clinical research on DH?
Yes. A 12-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 110 adults with heartburn or reflux symptoms tested the DH fermented soy formula containing Gastro-AD®. Heartburn scores fell by 47.6% and regurgitation scores by 62.9%, both significantly more than placebo. The study was published in Nutrients (2024;16(16):2779, PMID 39203915) and registered as NCT06524271.
The trial compared the full DH formula with a placebo without Gastro-AD®. Nattome has not tested its postbiotic on its own, and DB and DR were not part of this trial.
How do I take DH?
Usually one sachet a day. Mix it with 150–200 ml of water below 40°C and drink it straight away, in the morning or when needed.
Who should check with a doctor first?
DH and DR contain soy, so they are not recommended for people with a soy allergy. DH is also not recommended for people with G6PD deficiency. If you are pregnant or take long-term medication, show the ingredient list to your doctor first.
